From Thailand to Europe, SuperThai are taking their music and culture to a growing international audience. As they celebrate their first year together, the group reflects on their journey, FIGHT BACK, their global ambitions, and CUBBIES who have been by their side from the start.
For SuperThai, the past year has brought growth, new opportunities and experiences they once could only dream of. Having already performed in Europe earlier this year, their return to the European stage is another milestone as they continue to reach audiences beyond Thailand. At the center of it all are CUBBIES, whose support has been an essential part of the group’s story.
A connection between cultures
Four members, four personalities, and a shared ambition to take their music further. SuperThai describe themselves with three simple words, while Plengthai acknowledges the people who have supported them from the very beginning.
Léane: How would you describe SuperThai to someone discovering you for the first time?
SuperThai: We could describe ourselves as “unpredictable,” “funny” and “enjoyable.”And we also want everyone to discover what it means to be us. We’re not only showing you our music, but also our lifestyle, our culture and who we are.
Léane: What is the core value that holds SuperThai together?
Plengthai: I think it’s CUBBIES. We follow our dreams, and those dreams wouldn’t be possible without CUBBIES.
The group’s international activities have also given them opportunities to meet audiences from different backgrounds. For SuperThai, those encounters are an important part of being an artist.
Léane: As artists, what does it mean to you to share your culture as part of a cultural exchange?
Tadalee: As SuperThai and as artists, we find sharing and exchanging cultures really interesting, and we think it’s something beautiful. We all come from different backgrounds, and being able to share those different cultures and perspectives is a big part of what we find meaningful as artists. Through our music, we hope to create that kind of connection and bring people from different walks of life closer together.
'FIGHT BACK': turning pressure into strength
With FIGHT BACK, SuperThai look back at the different chapters of their musical story. The song connects their previous releases, from Generate and Run The Show to Heartbreaker, while introducing a new perspective on what it means to keep moving forward.
Léane: What made you want to bring these different chapters together in FIGHT BACK?
Tadalee: Actually, when I wrote these lyrics, I felt like they could be the final line of my rap. I wanted to look back at our journey from the very beginning and find a way to connect the stories of our songs, from Generate and Run The Show to Heartbreaker and now FIGHT BACK.
"Heartbreaker generate a fighter. Now we run the show."
Lyrics – FIGHT BACK
Tadalee: It’s kind of like a story of our growth: when we get our hearts broken, it makes us stronger and generates a fighter within us, so now we can run the show. Diamonds aren’t made under soft pressure; it takes intense pressure to make a diamond. Sometimes, choosing the harder path can lead to an easier life in the long run.
The idea of resilience takes on a particularly personal meaning when the members reflect on their own experiences.
Léane: Was there a particular moment in your journey when you felt like you had to fight back?
Ninja: For me, FIGHT BACK means fighting against our reality. Sometimes, our dreams can’t come true because reality is too difficult for us. But when you have the chance to fight, please fight for yourself and for your dreams, because you only have one life. Maybe in this life, you won’t succeed at everything, but you should still fight for yourself.
My first dream was to become a football player, but the truth is that I had physical limitations, so I couldn’t pursue that dream. That’s why I believe that if you have the chance to fight for yourself and your dreams, you should just do it.
Peanut: For me, FIGHT BACK is about fighting for your dreams, no matter what problems or difficulties come into your life. There will always be obstacles along the way, but you have to keep moving forward and face them with the right mindset. You just have to fight back in a good way, with a positive spirit, and keep believing in what you’re fighting for.
Tadalee: Sometimes, the world throws a curveball at you, and you have to stand up for yourself. For me, it’s about having the courage to face those unexpected challenges and fight for your stance.
The conversation takes a lighter turn when Plengthai offers his own interpretation of the title.
Plengthai: Everyone is too serious! For me, I fight with my body.
Ninja: What could be the cause?
Plengthai: Because I’m the oldest in the group! I have a lot of injuries, so I have to fight with my body first so I can work better.
Tadalee immediately finds the perfect way to sum up his answer:
Tadalee: Fight with my body before I fight the world.
From Thailand to a global stage
For Plengthai, the possibility of performing in Europe carries particular significance. He has previously spoken about his ambition to hold a global concert and build an international career, making each opportunity to perform abroad another meaningful step.
Léane: In a previous interview, Plengthai, you said that your highest goal is to have a global concert and become famous worldwide. How does your performance in Europe bring you closer to that goal?
Plengthai: I really appreciate the question. My whole life, I never thought I would have the opportunity to come to Europe and perform. But it happened for us, and for me, it feels like a dream come true. I feel like I’m halfway to achieving my dream now, and it’s getting closer and closer.
Performing thousands of kilometres from Thailand naturally comes with a different set of emotions. For Ninja, however, the presence of their fans can make even the most distant stage feel familiar.
Léane: What emotions do you feel when you step on stage far from home?
Ninja: Everywhere feels like home because we have our fans, all around the world. No matter who you are or where you’re from, thank you so much for supporting us. When we’re far from home, we always have doubts. Will we be able to do it? Will we succeed?
We’re scared, and sometimes we overthink things. But when we step onto the stage and see you guys there, we immediately feel comfortable. We just want to share our passion, our culture and our songs with you. Being able to create great memories together and make you happy is what makes us feel at home, no matter where we are.
One year together
As SuperThai celebrate their first year together, their attention remains firmly on what lies ahead. Yet when looking back, the group’s gratitude always returns to the people who have shared these experiences with them.
Léane: Finally, what would you like to say to CUBBIES who have been supporting you throughout your journey?
SuperThai: We just want to express our gratitude to all of you. We’re really grateful that our family has grown bigger. This past year has been a long journey, but it’s only the beginning, so thank you for being here and for becoming a part of our memories.
We hope CUBBIES will always take care of yourselves and stay healthy, so you can continue to come and support us. And honestly, the best gift you can give us is to be happy. So please take care of yourselves, and we wish you all the best.
Thank you to SuperThai for this interview.
